5 Easy Summer Updos to Get Your Hair Off Your Neck

easy summer updos

Hot summer days = CUTE UPDOS. I don’t understand how some girls can wear their hair down all over their neck, shoulders, and back on those sweaty summer days. I like to find new ways to get my hair up off my neck. Yeah a simple ponytail is easy, but what’s the fun in that? It’s also not fun watching 20+ minute tutorial videos just to find out the hairstyle you’ve tried is a huge fail on you. So that is why I’ve created this blog post. Below are 5 tutorial videos showing different cute summer updos. The best part is, each tutorial is less than 4 minutes!

It usually doesn’t help when I type out the directions along with the video so I’m not going to do it this time. It’s nice and easy to follow along with the videos. I will however write some comments below each video. Let’s get started!

Twist and Pin Updo

This hairstyle will work with all types of hair: straight, wavy, curly, long, short. Use Hot Off The Press to straighten or curl your hair if you are doing so. If you aren’t using hot tools beforehand, spritz your hair with it anyway, to add extra volume and to hold the hairstyle.

Bubble Bun with Braids

At the times she sprays her hair, the best sprays to use are this texture spray or Hot Off The Press.

Braid-Wrapped Sock Bun

Instead of using a sock, I use one of the hair donuts (it holds and shapes the bun better). Another thing I would change about this is to grab a larger chunk of hair and make one braid to wrap around the bun instead of making two small braids.

Summer Twist Updo

**This is my favorite style out of this bunch! Loosely curl your hair before beginning this hairstyle (using Hot Off The Press for heat protection + hairspray).

Braided Bun Updo

You might want to use some texture spray before starting this hairstyle. That way, your hair will grip together better.

I hope you enjoyed the videos. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below. 🙂

  1. Nice! Summer is sure going to get real hot, and these look like some easy updo’s to do in mins. No need to worry about doing your hair and taking hours to do it! I’m sharing this with my wife. I’m sure she is going to love it! Thanks for sharing these awesome hair styles. Summer is here, and it’s time to get out!

    • Jonathan,

Yes they’re all super easy. Might take a little practice, just like anything, but I’m sure your wife will have lots of fun with these.

  2. I have medium length hair and I find I always just wear my hair down. Wash and go styles. My hair is also very straight. When I wear it up, its a ponytail.

I want something different when I wear it up, but also not very complicated. I love the looks in the videos you shared, but I am worried they will be to complicated for me to do on my own.

I think I will give the first one a try, it might be the easiest and my hair is similar to the girl’s in the video.

Thanks for sharing these updo ideas!

    • Simone,

All it takes is a little practice and going along with the video. I’m sure you could learn through the videos that the styles aren’t all that complicated! But yes, I would start with the first one. Just remember when you roll up the back piece, do it tightly!

  3. Hi Gina,

Fantastic work not only with the updos but with the whole website. My sister is a hairdresser and just sent her a link, to take a look.
Do you have any good haircuts for guys? As most of us are running the ones that are popular at the exact moment.

  4. Fun website to look at.. I definitely enjoyed your videos and how easy and quick they are to do. I have long hair and I always pull it in a bun and it never looks good. I will be trying out your different styles soon. Thanks for the suggestions, so cute!!

    • Ffries,

No problem! I hope they work out well for you. A plain old bun is no fun.. well sometimes :
