Coconut Oil Miracle

Click the coconuts for a product review and to find out where to get coconut oil.

Plenty of people have been hearing the buzz about coconut oil, but how many of you have actually tried it, or even know how to apply it? I am going to give you detailed steps on how to use coconut oil as a deep conditioner, a detangler (that will also serve as sun protection) and as a massage oil to grow longer hair faster.

There is a step in these directions that you can skip if your coconut oil is already melted. The melting point for coconut oil is about 76 degrees F, which would be about 25 degrees C. So don’t worry if one day your jar is solid and another day it’s liquid. If your coconut oil is liquid from the start, you can just pour some into a small bowl. If it isn’t melted, here is how to do it…

How to Melt Coconut Oil:how to put coconut oil in hair

Step 1: Grab two bowls. One must fit inside the other.

Step 2: Put some coconut oil into the smaller bowl.

Step 3: Place the smaller bowl into the larger bowl, then pour hot water into the larger bowl (I use hot water from my Keurig).

Step 4: Wait for it to melt (it does not happen immediately).

Step 5: After the coconut oil is completely melted, remove the bowl.

Step 6: Your treatment is ready!

Deep Conditioning:

I advise to set aside at least an hour or two for this treatment. (The longer you leave the coconut oil on your hair, the better) Soon I will add photos for each step to make it easier!

1. Wash your hair and let it air dry while you complete the next few steps

2. Gather these materials:

  • Your jar of organic virgin Coconut Oil
  • A comb
  • A shower cap, small towel or large hair clip (a way to hold it up)
  • Two small bowls (one needs to fit inside the other)

3. Melt the coconut oil.

4. Once the coconut oil is completely melted, use your fingers to gently massage it into your hair, and comb through, starting with the ends.

5. Put your hair up, whether it is in a towel, shower cap, or large hair clip, and let the coconut oil soak into your hair for at least 30 minutes. I wouldn’t use a hair tie for this.

6. Shampoo the coconut oil out of your hair.

7. If you want to give your hair a nice shine, you  can add a small amount of remaining oil to the ends of your hair (not too much or it will look dirty).

Detangler/Sun Protection:

1. Gather these materials:

  • Your jar of organic virgin Coconut Oil
  • A brush or comb
  • Two small bowls (one needs to fit inside the other)

2. Melt the coconut oil.

3. Once it is melted, apply the coconut oil to your hair, starting at the ends, and comb through. I recommend leaving it off a few inches before reaching the scalp to keep a cleaner look (you don’t want it to look like dirty hair).

4. Let the oil soak in, then style as usual. You don’t need to wash it out when using as a detangler.

Faster Hair Growth:

This is a remedy to do close to bedtime, because you should sleep with the coconut oil in your hair for the best results.

1. Wash your hair and condition as usual.

2. Gather these materials:

  • Your jar of organic virgin Coconut Oil
  • A comb
  • A shower cap, small towel, or large hair clip
  • Two small bowls (one needs to fit inside the other)

3. Melt the coconut oil.

4. Massage it into your scalp with your fingers. For ladies with long hair, it will probably be easier to do this with your head flipped upside down.

5. Wrap your head in the towel or shower cap and leave on overnight.

  1. I just adore tips like this… natural, do-it-yourself, at home, using something right out of your pantry! Way to go!

I will be saving your website as I’ll attempt to do it once I get back home. I’m currently staying with my sister as she’s had an operation.

I won’t be able to do the sleep overnight with it in as it’s too cold where I live at the moment. But… I’d like to do it once the weather warms up.

I used coconut oil for lots of other things though and just love it. Coconut Oil Miracle is a good name for it. Right at this moment I’m wearing coconut oil in my homemade deodorant. Haha!

I’ll look forward to any other tips you have about hair.

    • Marilyn,

I’m sorry to hear about your sister.

Yes, coconut oil is great for many things! Since my website is about hair health I kind of left out anything unrelated. But for homemade deodorant? That’s interesting I haven’t heard of that.

  2. loved your website my wife uses coconut oil on a lot of things. The one thing that did turn me off a little is the fact your steps repeated them selves to much. Maybe try consolidate to make it a little shorter but give the same message. Would leave you some room to ad other ideas for coconut oils.

    • Thank you for the recommendation, I was a little lost trying to organize it haha. I’m working on fixing it 🙂

  3. We always have a jar of coconut oil in the house. I have not used it on my hair though. I have used it on my teeth but I haven’t made it a routine where I use it consistently. My little girl is two and has to use detangler for her hair. Maybe I should try using coconut oil on her hair instead of the detangler. Thanks for the tips!

    • Yes you should try that! It smells so good on the hair all day. Just don’t use too much or it will make her hair look oily!

  4. I’ve used coconut oil for years but never on my hair. It’s so nice to see someone promoting a chemical free treatment for hair. I have very dry hair that tangles easily. I can’t wait to try this! You break down the different steps really well. It seems like it would be easy even for people who are terrible at DIY beauty (like me).

    • Hialyn,
I suggest you try your coconut oil on your hair asap! You’ll be able to see results after the first deep conditioning. And yes haha it is a very easy process to do if you follow the steps. My hair used to be dry and tangle easily too until I learned a lot about hair care.

  5. I am going to try the coconut oil deep conditioning treatment. I love using natural remedies without chemicals added. How often do you recommend using the coconut oil for a deep conditioning treatment? My hair seems to get drier with age. You have a very nice website with great information!

    • Alice,

      Thank you!

The deep conditioning treatment is my favorite. How often you do the treatment depends on your hair. Some people do it weekly, biweekly, once a month…etc. It only does good things for your hair so you can do it as often as you’d like. Then whenever you start to feel your hair getting dry, do the treatment again. It’s so nice seeing how your hair looks and feels after the shower, following the deep conditioning treatment.

  6. Very helpful and Great information,
we appreciate advise especially coming from a professional.
Thanks again and keep up the great work!
